The Product
A premium smart diffuser that holds up to 5 interchangeable scent cartridges and can blend and dispense up to 25 fully customizable scent combinations. Designed for both personal and commercial spaces — from homes and offices to hotels and luxury environments — it delivers a personalized aroma experience unlike any standard diffuser on the market.
Users can switch scents by simply flipping their phone or waving their hand in front of the device. This gesture-based interaction was built into the embedded system using sensor logic programmed in C++ on the ESP32 — making the experience feel intuitive and futuristic without needing to open an app every time.
The diffuser responds to voice commands — allowing users to change scents, adjust intensity or activate specific modes entirely hands-free. Voice processing is handled through cloud AI, keeping the device lightweight while still delivering a responsive and seamless voice experience.
The cloud AI engine learns user preferences over time and proactively recommends scents based on time of day, mood patterns and usage history — curating a truly personalized aroma environment. This makes the diffuser not just a device but an intelligent scent companion that adapts to the user.
Engineering Highlights
The entire embedded system was built on the ESP32 microcontroller and programmed in C++ — handling sensor logic for gesture detection, actuator management for cartridge dispensing, WiFi connectivity for cloud AI communication and Bluetooth for mobile app pairing. All of this runs reliably on a single embedded platform.
The device uses WiFi for cloud AI communication — sending usage data, receiving recommendations and processing voice commands — while Bluetooth handles local mobile app pairing for real-time control. Both protocols were implemented and managed simultaneously on the ESP32 without conflict.
Designed the advanced electronic circuits for the diffuser — including sensor interfacing, actuator drivers for the cartridge dispensing mechanism and power management circuitry. Each circuit was designed to be compact, efficient and reliable enough for a consumer-grade product.
While the mobile app was built by a dedicated team, contributed directly to the UI design and user flow — ensuring the app interface aligned with how the hardware actually behaves. This cross-functional contribution helped bridge the gap between hardware capability and software experience, resulting in a more coherent product.
